Your Child At 5 Years 10 Months

Like the other phases of child development, this age period of 5 years and 10 months will show major changes. This is the time when your kid will emotionally and physically evolve. It comes along with the insecurities of leaving the comfort of their parents behind. At this age, your child will experience social changes through schooling, playing games, and other activities in the absence of the parents.

Weight and height 
The weight and height of your child shows progress. If your child is a girl, then the average weight and height should be 15.8 kg and 38 inches, respectively. If your child is a boy, then the average weight and height should be 16 kg and 40 inches, respectively.

Language milestones:
At this age, the language milestones include:
• Speaking complete and complex sentences.
• Follow certain rules set by parents and teachers.
• Learning a new series of words along with improving vocabulary and grammar.
• Learn the meaning of new words along with understanding jokes and humor.
• Read books that are appropriate for their age.
• Completing the school task and learning lessons.

Physical milestones:
At this age, your child will be able to show a diverse range of physical skills. Some of the simple tasks such as catching balls, jumping, and playing various games are common. At this age, your child wants to burn his energy off in outdoor activities. Some of the physical milestones at this age are better hand and eye coordination, improved motor skills, and playing sports along with following the rules.

Emotional milestones:
At this age, your child has a social circle which has increased his emotional awareness. Your kid is aware of basic manners, behavior, and concepts such as not hurting anyone intentionally. Some of the emotional milestones at this age include the desire of choosing clothes, making new friends, going through peer pressure, and being independent in terms of self-care.

Health and nutrition
• Choose a variety of food with essential nutrients such as protein and carbohydrates.
• Add more green veggies and fruits to the diet.
• Serve in portion and make the mealtime more interesting.
• Avoid processed food, fizzy drinks, and sugary diet.
• Add the right amount of lean protein, meat, whole grains, cereal, high fiber bread, and juices. Keep the fat consumption controlled.

Parental tips

• Make sure you motivate your child to indulge in better learning and healthy activities.
• Do not force or dictate your child to perform a certain action.
• Make sure you teach him basic manners to bring positivity in his personality.
• Do not scold your child in case he wants to learn or explore something new.
