Your Child At 5 Years 6 Months

At this age, you will find your child having noticeable changes in his behavior. It is because of his exploration and imagination. He will ask you several questions in a day. Your kid has a social circle beyond his family now. You will see his emotional growth as well in the form of affection, attention, and care. If you are worried about specific development milestone associated with his age, then consult a child’s pediatrician.

Weight and height 
The maintenance of the weight/height is crucial in achieving the development milestone for your children. Sometimes, the children are either under or overweight. This negligence of weight and height can lead to growth disorder.
• If your child is a girl, the average weight and height at 5 years 6-month old would be 39.6 lbs and 43 inches (111 cm).
• If your child is a boy, the average weight and height at 5 years 6-month old would be 40.7 lbs and 44 inches (112 cm).

Development milestone
School going children comes in all weights and heights. However, there are certain development milestone that should be considered to evaluate the health of your child.

• Language and cognitive milestone
At the age of 5 years and 6 months old, your child should be able to make complex sentences. Follow the commands and rules provided by parents. At this age, your child should be able to read books. Find out the meaning and decode unknown words. The concentration level on school tasks should also be increased. With growing language skills, you will see them describing their feelings and thinking better.

• Social and emotional milestone
At this age, your child should be more independent in terms of his social and emotional abilities. At this age, peer acceptance will be important for your child. In this way, he will make friends, do group activities and cooperate with others. You will see his choices of games, sports, and toys changing. Lying, cheating, and crying is common at this age. Teach your children about acceptable behavior.

Health and nutrition

The daily caloric intake should range from 1400 to 2000. One and a half cup of vegetables and fruits, 4 ounces of meat or beans, 2 cups of dairy should be present in daily diet. The processed food and sugary diets such as cookies and beverages should be avoided. Be creative and feed your child a variety of things in order to make meal-time more fun.

• Make sure you put a limit on digital games and involve your little one in physical activities and family time.
• Make sure you talk to the child about taboo topics such as sexuality, peer pressure, violence, and drugs.
• Make sure your child learn and read a lot.
• Make sure you enhance your child’s self-esteem and confidence through constant support and encouragement.
